Spring usually represents the dawn of a new time, or the coming of new ideas. In this case, the spring appears to represent the realization of what the world is really like, which is represented by the “scattered sun."

Morrison now inserts the word “scattered” in front of the word sun. Living in the scattered sun is how the world really is. Some pieces of the “sun,” or new age, are evident in the real world, but they may never be put together to achieve the “sun.”

Scattered Sun is also the title of one of their compilation albums.

Eden is an allusion to the biblical Garden of Eden. The Garden is supposedly a place of happiness and tranquility. The use of the word “flash” is an interesting choice. It implies that humans are jumping at the slightest hint of Eden, and there may not even be concrete evidence that the garden is actually there. More symbolically, humans are waiting for even the smallest signs of peace, even though it may never really come.

Jim Morrison’s definition of what the Garden of Eden brings is freedom. The idea that people are standing on the shore of freedom is Morrison’s commentary that total freedom may be unattainable. This again reiterates the point that Eden, and the ideas it represents, may never come or are out of reach.

Many luxury sports cars, such as a Lamborghini or Audi R8, have their trunks located in the front of the vehicle because the engine is in the back.

The two separately wonder who has suffered more from their failed relationship. Time will tell if the only consolation to come of their failed relationship is the food for thought it provides.
