Notice how Jay uses the same flow Drake did on the original. There were some rumors that Drake & Jay Electronica made a song together, but who knows…

Jay lists all the forces that try to oppose him and put him in a box: the devil who opposes his very being, the unceasing haters, the rumor-spreading blogs, and the even more insidious newspapers – none of these can relate to how far Jay has come.

But still, everybody wants to figure him out. They want to give him a name, and put him in a category. This part sounds similar to Kanye West:

Now who’s gonna be the Medici family and stand up and let me create more; or do you wanna marginalize me ‘til I’m out of my moment?

And the second line sounds like Nipsey Hussle’s sentiment he expressed in an interview with Complex:

Somebody in that building had a disgust for hip-hop. It was like a bougie stance from where they’re writing from. That’s what I took offense to. I see a lot of that in our culture right now. This shit came from the streets. This shit came from the people. This shit came from the struggle.

With “we came up from slavery”, Jay subtly makes reference to the Booker T. Washington book “Up From Slavery”, which was mentioned in this year’s (2014) Saviours' Day address (@2:35:00) by the Hon. Minister Louis Farrakhan.

This game was like Louisville playing its little brother – that annoying little brother that copies your every move until he’s almost better than you at them

Which makes sense: Manhattan’s coach, Steve Masiello, has worked under Louisville’s coach Rick Pitino as a ball boy, player, and assistant coach. He carried what he learned from Pitino up to Manhattan, completely modeling their game after Pitino’s signature ball

And it showed in this game: Manhattan matched Louisville’s pace – a rare feat – and played them wire to wire. But, ultimately, Louisville – ensured by a steal, a couple free throws, and a couple threes from Cool Hand Luke Hancock in the last few minutes – pulled it out

These are some popular hip-hop websites, which Jay is implying are all infatuated with him (probably true) – Jay has dropped this line on another song

Russ increased his 3-point percentage from 32.8% (mediocre) to 40.5% (awesome) and his overall percentage from 41.4% (average) to 47.5% (again, awesome). Personally, I’m comfortable with Russ taking any shot on the floor now, although the increase is due in part to better shot selection

The key word here is remaining: Chane Behanan, another starter returning from last year’s team, was dismissed from the team early in the season

Regardless, Russ has done a very good job leading this team onward successfully, despite them getting straight disrespected with a 4 seed in the tournament

#WHAT?!?!

The defending National Champions put together a 29-5 season (same as last year’s #1 overall seed team!), ending the season with five straight double-digit wins (three over ranked teams) and coasting to the American Conference championship.

The team has zero losses outside of the top 50, with its worst losses being at Kentucky (Rupp is one of the hardest places in the world to play in & they just played the top overall seed to the buzzer) and at home against a solid Memphis team.

Ken Pomeroy has Louisville at #2 overall, BPI has them at #4 overall, every poll had them at #5 overall before two teams ahead of them lost (meaning they’ll probably be higher overall in polls than their seed next week), and actually watching them on the floor – most valuable of all – shows that this team is every bit as good as, if not better, than last year’s championship team.

So why so low?

It’s gotta be strength of schedule. Despite Louisville’s six top 50 wins – four away from home – their strength of schedule was still 80th. Which justifies then not being a 1 seed, sure, but 4? Come on. That’s just disrespectful.

Jay played the back, faded to black, and devised a plan. He takes his time and uses music as therapy, recording some very intimate tracks.

This line also shows that (at least this part of) the song was written at least 3 years ago. Or perhaps he just decided to use the line now.
