Big Jaz, more commonly known as Jaz-O, produced and was featured on the hook of “Ain’t No N-gga”, and provided the third verse of “Bring it On.”

Jaz-O was a mentor of Jay-Z’s and was instrumental in the early stages of his career, but had a falling out with Jay-Z later in their careers. Some – including, infamously, Nas – claim that Jay-Z practically stole his rap moniker from Jaz.

This furthers the religious connection Olds draws.

She claims that these people she is writing about actually have a better perspective on sex than most do – that the pleasure derived from it is actually from their own pleasure, not a product of the partner. The partner is merely a mechanism to create that pleasure; a mechanism that is not unique

This is parallel to religious people who realize that the enlightenment they feel from worship comes directly from God, not from the priest who helped them get there

Ahhh, the product of capitalism: the rich getting richer

Kweli sympathizes with the “fans” not financially supporting artists when they can just as easily get the music for free, because they feel like the artists don’t really need the money. This is supported and perhaps even perpetuated by flashy hip-hop songs like “Bugatti”, cleverly alluded to here.

Assata Shakur was a member of the Black Panthers, Black Liberation Army, and other African American activist groups. She was arrested stemming from a shootout, and has been exercising political asylum in Cuba after escaping prison in 1979 since 1984

She is a bit of a hip-hop icon, not only because of her involvement as an activist, but also because she is 2Pac’s step-aunt (and rumored by conspiracy theorists to be housing the “still-living 2Pac”)
