Em returns to the superhero universe after killing Superman in the first verse. He is now going after Spider-Man, whom he detects by using the “Spider-Sense” that Spidey uses to detect danger. Em would call Spider-Man his favorite superhero in a 2013 interview.

Furthermore, this is a play on the phrase “to open [up] a can of whoopass,” which means to beat somebody up. A “canister” is similar to an aerosol can used to spray bug killing agents, something he can use to kill Spider-Man. Or perhaps Em is thinking of Web Shooter they used to sell:

This can be interpreted a variety of ways:

  1. Things got a little awkward when they left.

  2. It references two members of the famous 1990’s group TLC, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas

  3. This line is also a reference to Wayne’s old rap clique, The Hot Boys. Juvenile and the other members of this group left Cash Money suddenly, causing beef. When they left, Wayne got chilly towards them, i.e. cold.

  4. The album “Let it Burn” was the last Hot Boys release, released in the midst of this drama (during the same time that TLC was active)

Let it burn references the last album Let Em Burn released by the Hot Boys and as well as the song Burn by Usher which was about his failed relationship with Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas which ties in the reference to the TLC members in the previous lines.

To appreciate the full wordplay here, it’s important to mention the stuttering that Wayne puts at the beginning of each line that perfectly sets up the “La Bamba” punchline. So it should be written as:

“l-l-lily pad niggas,
l-l-look at the monster,
y-y-you don’t wanna crash like,
la-la-la bamba”

Also, “lily pad niggas” is referring to a common hood expression used when someone’s “feeling froggy”-or has some sort of beef with you. The one feeling froggy is usually told to “leap”, like a frog, if they wanna do something about it.

Wayne has often used this phrase himself:

– as many other rappers have.
For example, Fabolous dropped a froggy-themed line on Waynes own record!

These lines have a similar use as “when pigs fly”, which is a sarcastic remark, used to indicate the unlikeliness of some event. After Em has criticized president Bush throughout Encore, on songs such as “Mosh” and “We as Americans”, it is unlikely that he will defend him.

Yet another insult directed at Debbie Mathers, Eminem’s mom. He was sued by her for the amount of $10,000,000 because of defamation, which was settled before he recorded this song. Thus, he feels free to swear at her, because she ended up only being awarded $1,600 or so in damages after legal fees.

Eminem has since made it clear that he regrets dissing his mom in “Headlights”, but, unfortunately, he made this line too iconic. Whenever he plays this song at concerts, he doesn’t yell “Fuck you, Debbie.” The crowd does that for him.

@GothicM I believe the defamation (the action of damaging the good reputation of someone; slander or libel) was to do with a previous song “My Name Is” where he made claims that she did drugs.
