Poet Laureate II Canibus – Poet Laureate II

From Canibus' album Rip the Jacker, Bis raps for seven straight minutes over three beats constructed by Jedi Mind Tricks producer Stoupe. The vocals for this entire album were recorded a capella then sent to Stoupe who created beats around them. The three different beats reflect each of Canibus' three alter egos: Canibus, Rip the Jacker, and Germaine Williams.

A “poet laureate” is basically a highly revered poet, sometimes even appointed by a government.

In this epic “poem” Canibus starts out by describing how he expects “Rip the Jacker” – his super lyrical alter ego – will be thought of by historians centuries from now. He then tries to prove his case by spitting one of “Rip’s” (really just his own) rhymes.

The Olympics has a tradition of carrying and lighting a large torch at the beginning of each of the Games. Wayne is insinuating that he keeps the flame, much as the Olympics keeps their torch

Eric Bieniemy was a running back for the Chargers, Bengals, and Eagles. He was a fucking beast, one of the best running backs in school history.. Wayne controls (runs) the game like a running back.

Rumpelstiltskin is a fairytale character who wanted the heroine of the story to turn hay into gold.

Just like Rumpelstiltskin, Slim Shady claims to be able to turn straw into gold (i.e., make money from nothing), setting up the following line in which he claims further transformative powers

This idea was later reused on “The Monster”

When Eminem was on the come up his white skin made him easy to ignore, but now that he has made it big in a predominately African-American genre, his skin makes him impossible to miss.
