The birds all flying off the wire and into the depths of the sky possibly make Bukowski jealous because he wishes he too could fly off into the depths of his mind in order to conjure up a decent poem.

He is addressing the reader directly here while also using the colloquial word “fucker” to possibly show endearment in the same way you might call a close friend a “fucker”.

Although it’s possible he is just expressing his dislike of most of his readers…Bukowski is an enigma.

The First 48 is a television program depicting the real life pursuit of law enforcement agents to solve homicides within the time frame of 48 hours. Episodes almost exclusively take place in low income, high crime neighborhoods like Spitta’s Magnolia Projects.

420) is probably Curren$y’s favorite number as it is the universal time for smoking weed. April 20 has also become a counterculture holiday celebrating cannabis as well as my birthday so smoke one for ya boy if you got that 420 vision!

Since he is having trouble writing (ironic..since, you know, he is writing this poem), his typewriter has become no more useful that a giant paperweight, like that of a tombstone.

Interestingly, birds were a reoccuring theme of Bukowski poems; Bluebird, The Girls and the Birds, and The Mockingbird all show his preoccupation with the animal, possibly shedding light on the fact that Bukowski spent much of his time alone in his one bedroom apartments, only able to draw inspiration from the chattering birds outside.
