This is the one right here. This is where i want hip-hop to go…crossing over with electronic and indie artists. This track is so bomb and i gotta give Danny maaaad props for his 2nd collabo with Purity Ring (BeliSpeak II is the first one.
Me, Maboo and Squanto were watching her set at FYF Fest in LA and this was a part of her i encore and i damn near flipped when she played it, as i had no knowledge of it’s existence up to that point. Swoon.

Fuck the system, i’m picking 11 songs! Mostly cause i forgot to include this jam and i distinctly remember last week when i saw QOTSA at Barclays Center turning to my friend during this song and saying “Top 5 songs of the year right here.”
The crazy thing about that show is i’ve never seen Josh Homme so tame before and he’s most vulnerable on this song. It’s the mellowest Queens of the Stone Age song i’ve ever heard and there’s so much pain, emotion and life in it. It’s Homme talking to the face he encountered when nearly dying on an operating table. Only to awaken from a coma, rehabilitate and write this album. Also, peep the interactive video experience for this song here.
But i’m gonna give you the non-spotify list here. These are 10 songs that popped into my head a day ago and i think that’s the best indicator of what a Top 10 should be. These are the ones that i think about on the regular. Enjoy y'all!
Ok…full disclosure. I originally had “Fireside” by Arctic Monkeys on here, because it so vividly describes the end of a recent relationship that i got out of and i’m trying not to think about it anymore so BACK OFF!
Instead…Glasser’s “Landscape” is divine. From the moment the beat drops and Cameron Mesirow’s voice throttles up and down on the track, it’s bliss. Enjoy it.
This songs means a lot to me because it’s one of the first one’s that i worked on for Rock Genius. I remember asking the homie hwizzo29820 to assist with the biblical references and we seriously hashed out the meaning of this song for like 2 hours before a light bulb went off and we KNOW we nailed it. We kinda decided to keep the annotations tame because some of the personal issues we feel it addresses for the band are kinda heavy and we hope to verify them someday soon. If you wanna wax about the deeper details of this song, def hit me up. One love.
This beat tho! I love King Krule…One of the most original artists out there and an unforgettable deep voice. The simple guitar riff with the spacey effects and re-verb create such an awesome atmosphere. This guy’s the man and in 2 years will surely be one of the biggest acts in England…EVen though he looks like a cross between Rick Astley and the pimple-faced kid from The Simpsons:
This is everything i want in a straight up rock song. These guys are just pure fucking rock musicians. Twangy guitars, sick bass, uniquely layered instrumentation and the cymbals…oh the cymbals! This track is such a throwback and is flat-out good American rock and roll.
