Jessie Ware is so elegant. Her record Devotion was one of the more polished electro-soul releases i’d hear in 2013. “Wildest Moments” in particular is so epic and inspirational..It’s just a matter of time before a remix of it ends up used in sports telecasts in the same way that Lupe Fiasco’s “Superstar” was.

Also, my favorite memory of this song was at my going away party in San Francisco: The minute i got there i pumped like $20 into the jukebox to make sure i controlled the tunes for a couple hours. When this song came on at like midnite, me and one of my hip-hop soul brothers, ChristianPaz locked shoulders and started singing. There’s nothing more poetic than two hip-hop bros swaying to Jessie Ware at an Irish bar.

It doesn’t get more hip-hop than this!

Easily my favorite song off of Days Are Gone. It sounds like they recorded it in a silo (a la My Morning Jacket)

I can’t seem to pinpoint where exactly i heard this song for the first time but HOLY SHIT! The minute i heard it, it was pure electro-pop goodness. I even wrote a lyrical breakdown of it for The Music Ninja blog:

This was MY song of the summer for sure and RAC and MNDR are artists to watch. I’m happy to see Kele is still doing shit that i like cause anything after Silent Alarm from Bloc Party was just not my bag.

It’s actually A Tribe Called Quest (with an “A” at the beginning), someone in the copy edit department seemed to be ok with dropping the “A” on the name of one of the most legendary/influential hip-hop crew of all-time. They even abbreviate as “ATCQ” a lot…Considerable oversight on their part.

Despite the mistake on Pitchfork’s part, the nod to ATCQ they are referring to is the bass line on NaNa, which is sampled from ATCQ’s “Sucka Nigga.”. Q-Tip sampled the bass line from Jack Wilkin’s Red Clay. Basically, Chance has created a 3 piece sample chain!
