If a private in the U.S. army made more than approximately $18,000-24,000 military spouses might not have to work quite so hard. Such salaries seem quite inadequate for those who do America’s dirty work.

Unemployement is also higher among former soldiers than the average population, when arguably it should be easier for them to find a job.

In a 2011 Department of Agriculture survey, 49 million Americans were found to be “food-insecure” or “very food-insecure,” meaning they couldn’t always afford the food they needed.

The American ideals of democracy, which literally means rule by the people, should give equal opportunity to all- regardless of wealth, etc. Sadly, people like Romney are given educational and social advantages by virtue of their wealth; but even the poorest citizens have the power of the vote

The real crux of the abortion issue goes unaddressed in this line. If pro-lifers are correct, it is not simply an issue of the woman’s body; a separate though dependent human being would also be affected by the choice. This is what makes the views of pro-life and pro-choice advocates so utterly irreconcilable

According to pro-lifers, this argument would represent an unwarranted inference; while we should not judge a rape victim, we ought to judge her actions. Her personal worth may not be lesser for responding in an immoral way to traumatic events; but this is because she is less responsible for her actions. She might not be held a sinner; but the abortionist who performed the operation would

The pro-life Christian’s view on pregnancy caused by rape is not that the event as a whole is intended by God; it is that God can manifest his intention by making the best of a bad situation. Clearly the woman should have had a right to choose not to be forced into sex; but when she becomes pregnant, a second life becomes involved– that of the unborn child. She should not have the right to end it. One metaphor which might illustrate this position is that of a ship crossing the ocean on which an illegal stowaway is discovered, whose presence on arrival in port would adversely affect the captain’s reputation. Although the captain was forced into the situation, is not responsible for the stowaway, and will experience suffering, he does not have the ethical right to throw the stowaway overboard.

This line contradicts itself; she omits the article or cardinal number from the colloquial noun “think,” but it is still implied to be singular. Thus “There is no one-think, but in general there is one-think.”

The problem with these statements is that this neighbour saw Jade as black, first and foremost– a viewpoint which can only be dehumanizing; the fact that she was black was given priority over the fact that she was human

The “chip” on Jade’s shoulder is the knowledge that her entire people were regarded as subhuman and enslaved by “older white people,” who are closer culturally to some older people today than to the “younger generation” which voted for Obama

This kind of “humour” is actually a textbook example of racism. Attributing a common view to people of the same race (because a religion proscribes certain views for its members, that’s a separate issue) implies a correlation between skin colour and attitudes which fails to differentiate members of said race; thus instead of a real person, we have a stereotype. However, it is a type of humour commonly employed by comedians such as Russell Peters or Dave Chapelle; because they utilize stereotypes of their own races, they are largely exempt from criticism. Are these comedians to blame for such questions? My partial vindication of their style would be to point out that they trade in cultural stereotypes rather than racial; due to the societal pressures which affect everyone’s psychological makeup, these are more accurate than discriminatory. However, questions of the kind addressed by Jade’s husband’s “friends and family members” seem motivated purely by skin colour, and thus, as earlier explained, dehumanizing and racist
