Steve Bartman is the fan that reached for a foul ball and interrupted the catch by the Cubs' outfielder, Moises Alou, which ultimately led them to lose the 2003 NLCS.

This is a pretty deep metaphor. “the majors” has double meaning for either major league sports or the major music labels.
Furthermore, “come play ball” also has two meanings. “play ball” means to start a game or a sports contest, or “play ball” can be seen as going along with what the label wants in order to get and keep a record deal.

In other words; labels want you to fit a sterotypical image because that sells records, or so the average label believes.

It’s actually a very clever way of using language, He says that, in order for a Record Label (production company) to like you, you have to fit in a stereotype (you need to fit a label).
To me, it resonates with the first lines of the second verse:

If my goals are odd I take as a challenge
People seem confused by how I hope to use my talents
Could he be weird Al, could he be Jimmy Fallon?
I tell them to imagine Mos Def meets Woody Allen

Saying that where Watsky wants to go with is music is an unexplored path, while Record Labels want him to be ‘labellable’.

The first ‘label’ is a synonym to ‘majors’ few lines later.
