Both of these lines are references to the movie Casino.

One scene shows one of Nicky Santoro’s henchmen (Dominick) spitting on a free sandwich given to police officers at his restaurant.

In the opening scene of the movie, in an attempt to kill Sam Rothstein, they blow up his car with him in it. The model of car which Sam is driving has a steel plate under the driver’s seat, which saves his life.
