The theme here is almost identical to the one presented in “Landscape with Flood of Ditritus”. Here Patrick reflects on how beauty and almost everything else becomes meaningless in the end.
All the Pretty Horses(1992) is a novel by Cormac McCarthy. It’s regarded as the first novel that put McCarthy in the eye of the public and helped build his reputation as one of the best writers of current day. The main character is a young guy by the name of John Grady Cole who wants to set out on an old school western adventure. He is unfortunately greeted with the modern day life and realizes that times are changes. Being young isn’t what it used to be.

All the Pretty Horses is a novel by Cormac McCarthy. In it he’s pretty detailed about plants and such. The book too is about a bunch of kids who never act young they just run away and become hard ass cowboys which kinda fits the song here.

This could be a reference to the painting – the “pretty horses, flowers, and trees” are a metaphor for the trappings of respectable suburban life, but they mean nothing to Icarus (who Patrick identifies with), who is falling to his death in the background.
