So throughout the album I go back and give you bits and pieces of this story and what happens later but this is like the main conflict I have to think of now that I didn’t when I was younger. Now its not about just me.

So in order to be all the way real I had to come to terms with not only might I have to leave my job I might have to leave my girl behind if I need to make moves and this was probably the hardest verse on the album to write.

We wanted everytime the hook comes back to feel like I’m brainstorming like “ok, who else might I be able to get on a song and help me get famous?” and always realizing 1) I can’t afford them and 2) Aint Nobody Coming!!!

Although it sounds like I’m talking about a specific manager or boss I really was personifying the whole situation like as if it was a bad relationship (put a marker in that theme). I was just like Imagine just walking out like you fuck it, you don’t really know who I am do you? I’m supposed to be famous right now! Kanye West Voice I’m totally getting fired by the way..

Microsoft Excel is my entire life some days, I’m sorting files thinking about places I should be and things I could be doing. Ways I should be making or promoting music but instead I’m sorting inmates and their files.

So for context I work in a jail trying to help guys get an education who are locked up. If you didn’t know almost every jail in America is filled with Black Men even though we are 7.5% of the population of the country. How Sway?

I spent 8 of those 10 years going to schools teaching kids, when I left that I was devastated because they truly gave me something to be happy about and feel like I was working towards. The next thing I know I’m in D.O.C. looking at bard wire fences and officers everywhere.

As of November 2017 I passed the 10 year mark of my job (as of today I still work there). The company is so big that I didn’t even get so much as a email card or congrats or cupcake or shit. Is was like another day. No one even cared. I thought to myself wow. 10 years to a company and not so much as an email from a place that does nothing but send you emails “per our last conversation” style. SMH

I wanted to speak to all the people with careers. Not jobs but careers, full time jobs with benefits, who sacrifice being happy for a check that isn’t really worth what they offer. No matter how good it looks, you gave up your dreams for a career in something else and in the back of your mind you never stop thinking about it.

They say you never work if you love what you do, however you always feel like you are working when you don’t.
