He’s asking Rita out for some Tea. For those Americans out there, it’s like asking someone out for coffee.

EDITORS' NOTE: As a British man, may I just clarify that asking someone out for tea doesn’t mean the same thing as the other meaning of “having coffee”. You know, doing sex.

A pun with the word tow. Meter maids can issue parking tickets and even have cars towed. McCartney, however, plans to steal or tow away her heart.

Lovely Rita is a traffic warden or meter maid. Myth has it that McCartney received a parking ticket from a beautiful parking attendant named Meta Davies. He dubbed her Rita in the song simply because he thought she looked like one. To be worth an entire song she must have looked something like this:

He used to be a vicious boyfriend: physically abusing her and sheltering her from the pleasures of life. It is definitely positive that he is changing his ways the best he can!
