Egotism, speaking about oneself.

Thinking about yourself excessively is egotism, that’s an issue in society, the me-first ideal.

Interested to note that Lauryn repeats this term eight times: which really is an act that fulfills the meaning of the term: instead of simply saying it once like all the other philosophies and terms in this song she repeats because egotism is all about oneself – thus by doing this she adds emphasis to the meaning.

In these two lines, Eso summarizes the whole hip-hop enterprise which consists the elements of: rap, DJ'ing, dance, graffiti art and knowledge.

Most of the time, hip-hop is confused with rap but hip-hop is an overarching movement and a way of life whilst rap is simply one element of that movement.

The goal-keeper analogy is very relevant because goals is another way of saying ambitions – which are things that we intend to achieve, and the main point of Football (or Soccer) is to score goals.

Much like a goal kicker (striker) envisions the goal before he even takes the shot, by planning out what part of the net he will shoot at, at what angle and trajectory and at what speed. He also makes sure to note any obstacles that may occur – possibly an aggressive defender from behind or a swift goal keeper who is running towards him to stop the goal from occurring – we need to plan and create a similar vision in order to achieve our personal goals.

The whole song could in a sense, be seen as sarcasm, making fun of the central theme of the song which is centered around the popular idiom “ignorance is bliss.” Essentially they are saying, that once we garner a complete disregard for everything that we elevate to a high status and just focus on ourselves and the sole purpose of being happy that is when we achieve true happiness or bliss.

The Vikings were Scandinavian warriors who were known for their brutality and fierce strength. In this case, Eso refers to himself as a Viking because he is essentially a Viking on the beat.
