Could also be a reference to falling dreams where you’re literally falling in a dream but wake up before reaching the surface beneath you.

Falling dreams are said to be indications of insecurities, instabilities, and anxieties.

I think this lyric can also be interpreted as the narrator simply not knowing about the two most vital parts of his life. His dreams and his love. He doesn’t know who he loves nor what he loves or what he wants or what the future holds and as the beat heightens so does his confusions and experiences and anxieties. But simply he is falling and loving and experiencing and perhaps that is all that matters. So he will simply continue falling and feeling until he figures it out.

Billy Corgan is also a pianist. His famous piano piece is called “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.” So I think the line references that he, himself, is a pianist.

The image of Billy Corgan playing in a church brings to mind the line from the Smashing Pumpkins song “Zero” when he says “God is empty just like me.” Maybe Danny Brown is saying that he feels out of place like Billy Crogan playing at church.

Even in his old age he can’t forget about the girl, but he’s at least found a new, better way to deal with the pain: music.

i don’t think he specifically means music i think its just the hope he’s holding on to of finding better ways to cope when he gets older later on in life

I think that finding a better method of “pretending” she was just some lover is implying that, at the moment he is writing the song at least, he believes she will never be “just some lover”. (Further re-emphasizing “the one that got away” feeling to this song.)

As if there were actually no way of getting over, only better ways of pretending he did.

I don’t think he was as optmistic as you inferred. I’d say he looks forward to getting old so that he can finnally get over this girl. At the same time I get the feeling he doesn’t want to “pretend she was just some lover”, he feels life will be a continuous dance ranging form nostalgia to momentarily getting over her.
