Miles uses “coke head” as an adjective here to describe a girl that is getting right up in his grill when she talks to him. Cocaine addicts are known to be close talkers.

Doo Wop is a genre based almost entirely on harmony rather than lyrics. Doo wop songs often integrate nonsense phrases like “doo wop” with short and straightforward lines about love, as in doo-wop classic “In The Still of the Night.”

As such, this miracle aligner is so competent that making your wildest dreams come true is as simple to him as following along to the lyrics of a doo wop song.

Alex and Miles remained as cheeky as ever when asked to explain this song’s lyrics for its world premiere on Beats 1 Radio. Alex first said it was about a yoga instructor, then Miles instantly contradicted him and said it was about a wrestler.

Given the Spiderman reference and nature of the miracle aligner’s superpowers, it seems the song is mostly about a well-intentioned man who is so gifted that he makes things difficult for the women whose hearts he wins.

In a 2016 interview in Coup de Main with Alexandra Savior, a cowriter and friend of Alex’s, she reveals not only that it was originally written for her upcoming album Strange Portrait, but that the song is about a cocaine dealer as well.

“Go get em tiger” are Mary Jane’s words of encouragement for Peter Parker/Spiderman in the Sam Raimi Spiderman series. The phrase is an idiom that basically means “good luck.”

The miracle aligner’s lover seems to be equally supportive, but his powers (“fifty feet tall”, “he’ll walk through the walls and creep up behind”) are a bit stronger than proficiency in gymnastics and ability to shoot webs.

PROPOSED SUGGESTION: Okay I have a bit of a radically interpretation here, where I think this whole song is a criticism of religion. So here the “miracle aligner” is Jesus/God, and the person praying to God expects Him to fulfill his or her prayers. “Go and get ‘em tiger” sort of mocks people’s belief in the efficacy of prayer, and the term “miracle aligner” itself kind of mocks a simplistic view of God as a being that will just string together miraculous events as long as you pray hard enough.

Taylor Bagley, Alex Turner’s girlfriend at the time the song was written and the inspiration for this song, has a septum piercing. She announced her decision to get the piercing to Instagram with the caption

A person told me many moons ago not to pierce my septum because it would make my “pretty face not so pretty.” Fuck the noise. Do what makes you happy 😊

“Love like a tongue in the nostril” may seem like type of a metaphor, but is taken pretty literally by members of the Arctic Monkeys. AM drummer Matt Helders famously took a picture of him licking his then-girlfriend’s nostril at a party, and Alex’s girlfriend Taylor posted a picture to her Instagram of someone (presumably Alex?) licking her nostril.

Superstition states that breaking a mirror gives you seven years of bad luck, but Alex wants to have rough sex in his girlfriend’s powder room until the mirror breaks anyway.

To answer his question, yes, he could have made his intentions clearer by ditching the “seven years of bad luck” reference.

Paris’s 20 arrondissements (districts) are arranged in a clockwise spiral, which is why this relationship’s downward spiral is compared to the city.

The Shadow Puppet’s first album, The Age of the Understatement was recorded in France, which could be why they’re referencing Paris.
