OutKast compares the ability of their music to bring people out of their hoods into the clubs to the Pied Piper’s ability to lure all of the pests of Hamelin out of their hiding places.

The duo has never clearly defined “Chonkyfire”, but calling their music “Chonkyfire” may simply mean their music is “fire” (or the truth).

Just like the Pied Pier of Hamlin, OutKast’s music brings out and exposes the fake artists/people who hide under their “hard” persona or any persona in general. This is a recurring theme throughout the album along with the “pimp trick gangsta clique” skits. Notice the added “snakes” and how it may be referring to Satan and how he disguised himself as a serpent.

Around 1999 at a show in his hometown, DMX started crying on stage when rapping a lyric that referenced to his grandmother. The media took this and tried to use it to make DMX look bad or soft, but instead, it gave him more respect from his fans because it just showed that he was so honest and “real” in his music, not even pretending to mask his emotions.

While rappers like Eminem would later become know for having very honest lyrics, DMX was one of the first rappers to show that being “real” wasn’t just about looking cool, you could look bad too, as long as it was honest, people would still respect you.
