Gennesaret, known in the Old Testament as Kinnereth was a city in Galilee with very rich soil (as described by Josephus). The rich soil made the area very populated (one reason for the masses of people at the lake.) Many were excited to hear the Word from Christ Himself as he stood by the lake.

Christ blatantly, yet subtly mentions his own death here continuing with the depiction of Him as a bridegroom. Him being “taken away” from his disciples is actually a depiction of his crucifixion and ultimate death finally coming to pass in Luke 23.

Once Christ’s death has occurred the living Word will no longer be there to teach first-hand which would then require the disciples to spend time fasting and praying for God’s word to be revealed. This is shown in Acts 1 and Acts 2.

Christ is asking the Pharisees why his disciples would fast to receive the Word when the living Word is with them. He makes it into a metaphor to paint a picture to the Pharisees by describing the setting as a wedding, Himself being the groom and his disciples (along with all people) being the guests of the wedding.

Christ is also depicted as a bridegroom in several other passages in Scripture:

  • John 3 – Here John the Baptist calls Christ the bridegroom and makes mention of his bride. (The only actual mention of the bride of Christ in the canonical Gospels.)

  • Matthew 9:15 – this verse is actually Matthew’s account of this same verse in Luke.

  • Mark 2:19 – this verse is actually Mark’s account of this same verse in Luke.

  • Matthew 25 – Here Christ is depicted as the bridegroom in the parable of the ten virgins.

This grand wedding between Christ the bridegroom and his bride is depicted in Revelation 21

Christ asks rhetorically “Why would they fast and pray when I am right here to teach them?”

Christ is called “the Word"throughout Scripture because He is, in fact, the living Word.

  • 1 John 1:1

To tithe is to give a one-tenth part of something to someone else. The earliest Biblical representation of tithing goes all the way back to Genesis 14:20 where Abraham (then Abram) gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything. It is actually presented as a God-given command in Deuteronomy 14:22-29

Here Malachi is responding to the cries of the Judea that they are cursed, stating they are cursed because have been robbing God of what is His. When a believer practices tithing or giving in any way they are preparing themselves for a blessing from God. Hence why Malachi urges the Judeans to “prove Me now herewith” (or in modern language, to test God.)

Malachi provides an amazingly vivid picture of God opening up the windows of heaven to pour out a blessing among believers that they don’t have room enough to receive if only they would first give God what is His. God wants His people to be blessed through giving that is proven multiple times throughout Scripture.

This line actually plays into the title of the second track from Count Your Blessings, aptly titled “Tell Slater Not to Wash His Dick.” Although the songs have nothing to do with each other, if a dude “cums” or ejaculates on a woman’s face he would probably want to clean himself afterwards…

The outro of the woman moaning references the first line of the song “She stars her new diet of liquor and dick.” Often people who star in pornography are considered “sluts” or people who are very sexually active. In essence, she’s just a whore and the outro adds emphasis to that.

To cum on someone’s face can also be a form of humiliation in sex. Further signifying the woman’s worth as nothing more than a common prostitute.

Many encourage the recreational use of drugs and alcohol because of the feeling it gives to people who end up drunk or high. Often times people neglect to tell others the hangover or crash that comes with it, hell being a euphemism for it because it often results in someone feeling physically sick. (i.e. a hangover)

A double entendre. Heaven is often described as a transcendent realm far above the earth we live on, so in order to get to heaven you would have to go “high up”.

Another meaning would be to say you can’t reach euphoria/heaven unless you get high via drug usage. Many controlled substances provide a feeling of euphoria. (ex: MDMA, a popular party drug.)
