Something that’s important to me in the situation is that there would be accountability. It’s the same thing we see in police homicides, that we see with things like this, where it’s just the infrastructure failing the people.

There is a lack of accountability for the people in positions of power. When you have a situation like this, where you have kids drinking this damaging water. Like, you don’t even know what the long-term affects of this lead poisoning can be, on them and their families.

So, the person that is saying yes to switching those pipes— to pull it out the Flint river— I was over there in Flint, Michigan.

They don’t have wealth in Flint. So they were able to say, “Yes. Switch that.” Because what are they going to do? So that’s why I put the governor in there, because we need to call it like it is.

What you would think is that we would all have basic human necessities, but as we see in Flint right now, that’s just not the truth.

Flint is 60% African-American. So it’s honestly more than just the racial divide. It’s really a class divide thing. Because, on top of those numbers, Flint most residents live beneath the poverty line.

You would never think that there are kids really drinking water that looks like this. That’s what blew my mind.

And that’s how that first bar came to my mind. Because when I looked it up and I saw the jug of water that was the color of morning piss, I’m like, “This is honestly what’s coming out of people’s faucets?”

Mind-boggling.
