By “Duncan-esque,” Shad compares himself to basketball player Tim Duncan who has spent his whole career as a player for San Antonio Spurs. He won a championship in only his second season, thus being on top at the start and being on top still, today — he won the NBA Finals with Popovich in 2014. That’s in reference to the previous lines.

Shad doesn’t ever say jack shit, he always stays real and sticks to the facts only. This is also probably an allusion to English musician Just Jack who started gaining fame with the release of his song “Starz in Their Eyes” in 2007, the same year that Shad’s The Old Prince, the album that this track appears on, got released.

We already know that Granddad flips out when someone drinks his whole orange juice from the first episode of The Boondocks, “The Garden Party,” when he found his orange juice carton empty. The Notebook is a 2004 romantic drama movie, and since Shad has started thinking and talking too much about love, he’ll probably love this soft movie and maybe even shed a tear watching it.
“The notebook” might also be a reference to how people who are into cooking often own a cooking notebook.
Just take out the bottom part about the cookbook that’s clearly not what it meant.
