Both of Shad’s parents are Rwandese and since Rwanda is a pretty small and unpopular country and there are not many celebrities of Rwandan descent, Shad is probably the most listened to rapper of Rwandan descent. And of course “rewind” and “Rwand[ese]” is a nice homonym.

Shad was actually born in Kenya and moved when he was 1 year old to London, Ontario. That’s a different London than the one in England where grime music was created, made popular by the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Wiley.

Playing on Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)”, where in the hook she sings:

Cuz if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it
If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it
Don’t be mad once you see that he want it
If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it

Instead, if you liked her, you should have turned your Blackberry phone ringer on, so she could have called you — basically, you should have payed her attention. This is in reference to the previous line, where girl sing the same old song wrong — they obviously sing Beyonce’s song wrong.

“Guap” is a slang term for “money” and Shad’s girl believed he could be a succesful and rich rapper.

This line is a throwback to the aforementioned Star Trek reference. The Vulcan salute, popularised by the character Mr. Spock on the original Star Trek TV show, quotes the phrase “Live long and prosper”.
