What the fuck we gon' do now???

In my opinion Big KRIT’s King Remembered in Time is the only other project worthy of being in the Mixtape of the Year discussion along with Chance The Rapper’s Acid Rap.

“WTF” may be one of the most poetic songs Krizzle has to date, as the song features two spoken word-type verses that aren’t really rapped but more “narrated” over a soulful-beat that only drops during the hook, putting more emphasis on KRIT’s message during the verses.

In the first verse, KRIT tells the story of a young man, anxious for a better living conditions who, along with a selling partner, turn to a life a drug trafficking. Everything is all good until they are caught by police and left asking themselves: What the fuck we gon' do now?

The second verse deals with the adulterous actions of a young man and married woman (who may or may not mess with that booger sugar). They meet each other at a club and eventually sleep together, resulting in the extra-marital pregnancy of the young woman. Her husband slowly but surely pieces the story together, leaving her, and her fellow adulterer asking: “What the fuck we gon' do now?

Luckily based Q decided not to drop Oxymoron this year and give his rap peers a chance to make my list. Puffy Season approachin' February 25th….

Seriously, who the hell still says Drake doesn’t have bars? Until a few months ago, I was in that same little boat. We should direct all the people who feel that way to bump this intro to my personal favorite album of the year: Nothing Was The Same.

As I mention later, I feel like modern-day Jay Z is still the most effortlessly quotable rapper in the game. Drake is probably a close-second. For six minutes backed by 40’s masterful production, Aubrey drops gem after gem.

Bench players talkin' like starters, I hate it

Aye, B I got your CD, you get an E for effort

ScHoolboy Q has put himself in the position to have a breakout year in 2014 with his major-label debut, Oxymoron. Singles like “Collard Greens” (or even “Hands On The Wheel” from his Habits & Contradictions days) are exactly why. Now ScHoolboy may never be on Drake’s level when it comes to churning out platinum singles, but this cut with his homeboy Kendrick Lamar proves that he has potential to at least come close with a couple.

The chill production of Gwen Bunn and T.H.C along with Q’s laid-back flow and Kendrick’s Spanish sexual advances creates a song that isn’t quite a banger but can still be on regular rotation in the whip.

As much flack as Jermaine Cole gets in the Rap Genius community for being “corny” or “boring”, he remains on of my favorite rappers today. Songs like “Power Trip” represent everything that I like about J. Cole as an artist. From the story-telling (which makes more sense if you’ve seen the music video and heard the song “Dreams” from The Warm Up mixtape), to his dope production and his ability to make a nice hook (with the help of Miguel).

Seriously might be the GRIMIEST SHIT released this year. Big Ghost’s tweet kinda sums it all up (stolen from Screv6 lol)

Nothing’s been the sam since they dropped “Control” and rappers were likely starting to feel nervous when approaching Kendrick for a guest verse, fearing that they may be thoroughly out-shined. Kendrick tries to come for the renegade in the second verse and while it was dope as fuck, he and Pusha are just too evenly matched and it ends up in a lyrical tie. Still though, :whew:
