Eventually, Martin realizes that trying to play this from a strictly numerical sense does not satisfy the qualitative assessment his heart is trying to make.

A Rush of Blood to the Head is the sophomore studio album from British alt-rock group Coldplay. A critical and commercial success, the album earned Coldplay three Grammys including the coveted Record of the Year for their hit single, “Clocks.”

The lead single from the album, “In My Place,” was released on August 5, 2002. Other singles from the album included “The Scientist” and “God Put a Smile Upon Your Face.”

The album follows the concept of “Emotional Intelligence” and lack of consciousness towards one’s feelings and an inability to be aware of emotions which could result in impulsive behavior and regret, mentioned many times in the album. In the songs “In My Place,” “The Scientist,” and “A Rush of Blood to the Head,” the protagonist tries to look at his problems in a more “scientific” approach and hence calls his impulsive behavior “A Rush of Blood to the Head.”

“God Put A Smile Upon Your Face” is the third song off of Coldplay’s second studio album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

The song’s meaning is that one should appreciate what they have because life is short and nobody knows what actually happens after death.

Despite Coldplay’s massive popularity at the time in the UK, the single only peaked at 100th––only promo copies were released. However, it was a top 40 hit in The Netherlands and New Zealand, and hit number three in Poland.

The title track of “A Rush of Blood to the Head” deals with revenge and loss of emotional control we experience within it.

Furthermore, the British band tackle once again emotional intelligence and the ability to be conscious of our feelings and emotions. The protagonist is suffering from impulsive behaviour and he’s regretting his thoughtless actions, but blaming it upon what he calls “A rush of blood to the head.” The truth is he’s lost and unaware of how he feels.
