Some also view it as a song written to tribute the great black blues players who never reached fame because of their race

Nobody saw what the kid saw in Curtis Loew. They all thought he was just some old, drunk, black man that sat outside the country store all the time, but they didn’t see his talent and didn’t understand his ability to inspire

The band states that the song is based on “a composite of people” that lived in Van Zant’s neighborhood, but many believe Curtis Loew is Shorty Medlock who is the grandfather of Rickey Medlocke one of the band’s drummers/guitarist.

This references the song “Bicycle Race”, also from Jazz, which in turn references this song. The two songs were released together as a ‘Double A-side’ single.

The original cover for the single was a photo of a fully nude woman riding a bicycle, but many stores refused to sell it. The recording company released an alternate cover with panties painted on.

In turn of this song referencing it, Bicycle Race also refers Fat Bottomed Girls:

Fat bottomed girls will be riding today, so look out for those beauties oh yeah.

“Fat Bottomed Girls” was released as a ‘Double A-side’ single with “Bicycle Race”. It was the first single from Queens' 1978 album, Jazz. As the name suggests, the song is about girls with a large ass and just how pleasing they are to the band.

An international hit, the single reached the top ten in France, the Netherlands, Ireland and Norway, and also charted on the top one hundred in six other countries including the US, the UK, Australia and Germany. The song was also certified silver in the UK and twice platinum in the US.

Additionally, the album cover of Jazz includes a silhouetted line of fat bottomed girls riding bicycles.

Corgan finally felt as if he has found someone who could fill the void he has had his whole life, but pre-wedding jitters made him question his decision. His best friend and the band’s drummer Jimmy Chamberlin helped ease his nerves during the wedding because he was used to Corgan being nervous before shows.
