It took Sisy and his men just 72 hours to plan secretly for a “bright” future as he claimed and remove Morsi from his position as the country’s president.
On 30 June 2013, massive demonstrations were held across Egypt calling for Morsi’s resignation from office. Concurrently with these anti-Morsi demonstrations, his supporters held demonstrations in several squares including Rabaa, Maadi and Helwan.
On 1 July, the Egyptian Armed Forces issued a 48-hour ultimatum which gave the country’s political parties until 3 July to meet the demands of the Egyptian people. The Egyptian military also threatened to intervene if the dispute was not resolved by then. Four Ministers also resigned on the same day.
On 2 July, President Morsi publicly rejected the Egyptian Army’s 48-hour ultimatum and vowed to pursue his own plans for national reconciliation and resolving the political crisis.
On 3 July, Abdul Fatah al-Sisi announced a road map for the future, stating that Morsi was removed and that Adly Mansour, the head of the Constitutional Court, had been appointed the Interim President of Egypt.
The Rabaa Massacre is one of the worst massacres Egypt ever witnessed. It became crystal clear that army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was behind that massacre after he showed up smiling at a broadcasted national police academy graduation on the next day, less than 24 hours after at least 72 pro-Morsi protesters were shot to death by Egyptian security forces. Instead of being criticized for what the Muslim Brotherhood and some in the international community have deemed a massacre, Sisi was honored with a standing ovation. Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim referred to the general as “Egypt’s devoted son,” promising a cheering crowd that he would accept “the people’s mandate” to fight terrorism in a military-led “new dawn.”

Mohamed Beltagy is an Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood politician. He was a Member of Parliament from 2005 to 2010, and is currently the general secretary of the Freedom and Justice Party. He is involved in Morsi’s trial but why? That’s what I still don’t know.
