The word “Cartoons” suggests the earlier stages of life where we only watched cartoons as children, however, Kendrick Lamar has not progressed and advanced.

“Cereal” also implies the early stages of the day where, we eat only breakfast, not lunch or dinner. Maybe this ideology suggests how he can’t progress as he is stuck in the early stages of life as result, of his father telling him to keep premature antics, as development could lead to the disrepute of his child-like innocence.

Interesting fact: Kendrick has said his favorite cereal is Fruity Pebbles. He says he likes to let the cereal sit in the milk for a minute before eating because he “likes his shit 60% soggy, 40% crunchy”.

maybe he says “car tunes” and “serial” as in loud car music and serial drive-by killings, and that’s why he says “well let me tell you like this” he’s a serial killer of rappers with his car tunes, and that’s how he made it “past yours.” just a thought.

He’s been through tough times in his life and he converts that to his music. He wants you to feel his struggle through his bars

Tears are also salty, so his ‘tunes’ are like salt in a mental wound: viciously painful.

Also, of course, tunes and ‘toons are homophones. This is important because Gunplay’s tunes are like a cartoonish depiction of his life.

“Salt all in my wounds” may also refer to the home remedy of using salt to treat burns and wounds, with the aim of highlighting his experiences. This practice also is known to be painful (like a disinfectant), and this could explain the “tears”.

Ms. Winehouse refers to the former pop singer Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011 (after this song was made, or else this would have been in pretty bad taste).

Amy Winehouse was frail physically, and her career could be considered “frail”, as she was often making headlines are reasons unrelated to music. Her career in the business was turbulent at best.

C4 was a mixtape released by Kendrick Lamar under the name “K-Dot” in 2008. It featured in large part Kendrick Lamar rapping over instrumentals from Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III.
