The b-side to She Loves You, this song is almost ironic in its levels of twee, Beatlemania-pandering pop sensibility.

Indeed, the band later made jokes out of the fact that they used “oh yeah!” so much in their early songs.

“Suck It and See” is a song about having an almost unhealthy affection for someone (“Your love is like a studded leather headlock/Be cruel to me, ‘cause I’m a fool for you”). It’s rather romantic but doesn’t stick to the usual clichés. Alex uses very creative metaphors, similes and other techniques to combine the beauty of a classic love song and reinvent it. It is the title track from Arctic Monkeys’ fourth album.

Shangri-La is a fictional mountain valley described in 1933 novel Lost Horizon as being a lush and harmonious place, however fictional a place it may be. He’s never felt this way before and thought it only happened in novels. Turner is drawing comparisons between this and how the girl makes him feel.

A blue moon is the rare occurrence of a full moon twice in one month. Turner is using this description to show that these girls are as beautiful and rare as this occurrence would be.

A short track, played entirely by McCartney, based off a jam the group had in India.

It was pretty much recorded on a whim by McCartney whilst bored in the studio. The Beatles would often go away and work on their own songs alone by this point.

Mostly written by McCartney, but with backing vocal and a verse contribution from Lennon.

The idea for the song came from the favourite phrase of Jimmie Nicol, The Beatles' stand-in drummer for eight days of their 1964 world tour.

As is written in McCartney’s official biography, Many Years from Now, he intended to make the song have a positive tone

“It’s an optimistic song. I often try and get on to optimistic subjects in an effort to cheer myself up and also, realising that other people are going to hear this, to cheer them up too. And this was one of those.”

However, the song still dwelt on darker themes, such as domestic abuse. This is rooted in Lennon’s past, his own transition from a violent oulook on life to a peaceful one reflected in the lyrics of the song. In the last major interview before his death, Lennon explained:

“It is a diary form of writing. All that ‘I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved’ was me. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically – any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn’t express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women. That is why I am always on about peace, you see. It is the most violent people who go for love and peace. Everything’s the opposite. But I sincerely believe in love and peace. I am a violent man who has learned not to be violent and regrets his violence. I will have to be a lot older before I can face in public how I treated women as a youngster.”
