Tottenham record their fourth 1-0 victory of the season thanks to a harsh penalty decision by the referee. The ball does strike the defender’s raised arm, but it isn’t deliberate and defenders will argue that the ball came too close and fast to be able to get the hands out of the way.

Nevertheless, Tottenham march on as they have done for much of this season. They showed little flair but a lot of toil, securing the midfield area but failing to break down an away side who set out to defend deep and in great numbers. The fact that they have started so well whilst not playing to their best ability can only be a positive for Spurs fans.

The most exciting moment of the match came late on, as Andros Townsend took a painful tumble over the ad hoardings that kept him floored for over five minutes.

The effect of the Stephen Fletcher’s return to full fitness on Sunderland cannot be ignored. He does the instinctive basics of forward play so well in a team that has otherwise struggled to get the basic stuff right so far.

Here he shows great positioning to get himself into space and a big spring in his step to reach the ball over the defenders.

Roberto Soldado scores from penalty spot to give Spurs a win.

After not being awarded a penalty at White Hart Lane for two years, Spurs have had two in five home matches and three in nine total so far.

Soldado has scored all of them, and this one shows his cool head as he watches the keeper’s movement before slotting home away from him.

A second header rounds out Suarez’s hat-trick, and it’s a much easier goal to score this time. West Brom leave him totally unmarked and any striker worth his salt should be able to glance such a fast ball in across the goalkeeper as he does.

Suarez leaps to meet a cross, heading home.

This isn’t just any old headed goal. He’s so far out when he takes it – 18 yards from the goal – that the power needed to beat the keeper with your head from that range is extraordinary.

In fact, Suarez’s header propelled the ball towards the goal at 38 mph. Are you confident you could even kick the ball that fast?

Wonderfully composed and instinctive. Picking up the ball on the edge of the area, he takes a glance up and in a split second notices that WBA defender Claudio Yacob has his legs poorly positioned.

He nutmegs him like he’s on the school playground and doesn’t even have to take another look up to know where the corner of the goal is.
