A second 1-0 win for Spurs against a Swansea side that didn’t play to their full potential. Their usual quick passing game wasn’t present and they were physically weaker and slower than Spurs’s immensely athletic lineup. For a fuller tactical breakdown of this match see here.

The ex-Arsenal striker never showed what he was capable of in North London, but his first goal for Palace certainly hints at untapped potential. An excellent bit of skill to open up space, followed by a precise shot.

The only disappointing statistic for a player of his position is his dribble completion. When taking on opposition players, he only managed to beat his man two out of five times.

Still, this isn’t that bad when you consider the size of Cazorla (1.68m, 5"7') and the relatively large stature of Fulham’s midfield and defence.

Cazorla isn’t just a passing player – he has a mean shot on him too. He’s also pretty much ambipedal, so can shoot effectively from anywhere in the 18 yard area.

He had three shots in this match, all on target. Two were blocked before reaching the goalkeeper, and one produced a fine save from David Stockdale.

Arsene Wenger played in a 4-3-3 formation against Fulham, and positioned his midfielders in a triangle. Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky sat in a more defensive role slightly behind Cazorla, who was given a freer, more attack-focused remit.

This shows in the way he controlled the space around the penalty area. Creating five chances (shown in light blue) and setting up a Lukas Podolski goal (yellow).

The bread and butter of Cazorla, and in turn Arsenal’s, talent. Santi’s pass completion was 94%, an absurdly good rate for a player spending 90 minutes occupying the middle of the pitch.

As you can see from the graph below, he also made passes all over the pitch, spreading the ball wide when playing from defence, and displaying a range of passing ability in the opponent’s half.
