When we first broke up I cried continuously for months but during this hypothetical breakup inside my head, I didn’t cry and instead told her to leave promptly. This subconscious breakup is the reason why we will never date each other again.

These lines are somewhat echoed in Verse 2 of “Love / Hate” where I describe a dream I had in which Angelica attempted to get back together with me.

In my head Angelica expressed her love for me but I refused to believe the sentiment.

This lyric sets up the relationship between “She’s Gone” and the next song on the album, “Love / Hate.” In “Love / Hate” I rap “She’ll be the kind of girl who my children will call their mother / Her and I together, never have to find another, I hate you baby.”

While we were dating, Angelica and I had planned on having children together once we were married but now that we have broken up I attempt to make it quite clear that even if she begins to develop feelings for me again, I’m truly done and will find someone else to mother my future children.

Eventually I got over Angelica and decided that I no longer wanted her back despite the months I spent trying to win her over. My friends helped convince me that she wasn’t the right person for me.

This is also a reference to a line from “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne: “Stacy can’t you see, you’re just not the girl for me”

Translation: I even taught myself Korean so that I could serenade you / I love you

Angelica and I shared a mutual love for K-Pop and so after breaking up I began to learn how to speak Korean and attempted to sing a song in Korean for her although she wanted nothing to do with me.

I quickly learned that I could perform in English and Korean but she still would not want to go back out with me. I finally decided after that that I desperately needed to move on.

Translation: I oppose your opinion of me, treating me like I’m nothing more than another whore / It hurts so bad

After we broke up, Angelica began treating me like I was no better than dirt which cut me extremely deep.

Translation: I bought you a pretty rose but you let it sit and decompose / I miss you / But all my words to you is just noise.

On Valentine’s Day 2013, I gave Angelica a dozen roses that she proceeded to throw away as soon as she got home from school that day. Feeling as if I had been thrown away just like the flowers, I desperately wanted to see her again but she had no interest in seeing nor talking with me.

I worked my hardest to fight for our relationship whenever things got really hard but eventually she gave up and started to pick fights with me. She also complained about the direction our relationship was going; we agreed to slow things down intimately but she then decided that wasn’t good enough for her.

We began dating in June 2011 and broke up in May 2013, nearly two years of dating. I thought it was true love and that we would eventually get married someday; until she dumped me rather abruptly in May 2013.

In this verse I continue to criticize my relationship with Angelica Vega although by the end of the verse I come to terms that she is gone and I decide that I no longer care about her absence in my life.
