Jon Chu’s objective with this show was to highlight dancers. In recent years, people have started to look at martial arts as an artform (mainly in Dance) rather than a method of training. Yet, this is one of the first times dances have been placed into a form of martial arts.

Similarities between the two:
1. Train for skill development.
2. Dances battles are like fights without the violence.
3. Showcase abilities, various techniques, and styles.

Cole Horibe is a perfect example of both with his “Martial Arts Fusion” style, which he displayed on SYTYCD. He has been trained in both worlds.

Thoreau is known to compare or gender Nature as “she” or a woman and Industry as “he” or a man:

I love Nature partly because she is not man, but a retreat from him. None of his institutions control or pervade her. There a different kind of right prevails. In her midst I can be glad with an entire gladness. if this world were all man, I could not stretch myself, I should lose all hope. He is constraint, she is freedom to me. He makes me wish for another world. She makes me content with this. Journal, 3 January 1853

Industry and technology are creations of the male society, but woman aren’t and should be as free as the life that surrounds them; referring to the natural world. Houses are often seen as woman’s domain enforced on them by their male counterparts.

Stand is used in somewhat of a double entendre:

  • The women hate (can’t stand) the conditions they are confined too.

  • Suggests that woman or housewives always sit – oppressed – and can not stand up to men.

Thoreau carefully contrasts the differences between the natural world and the mechanical one. Very suggestive of the industrial world seemingly making humans lazy and useless.

How important is a constant intercourse with nature and the contemplation of natural phenomena to the preservation of moral and intellectual health!Journal, 6 May 1851

He wants a cool and down-to-Earth chick. Girls aren’t really know to watch sports, let alone follow them. A lot of them wouldn’t even know what SportsCenter is.

He doesn’t want a girl who’s just trying to impress a guy, but rather one who’s compatible.

“Patience is a virtue” and “good things come to those who wait” have similar, if not the same, connotation. Skizzy isn’t trying to one night stand her or move too fast. Clearly she doesn’t either, making them scared to touch.

A classic is something judged over a long period of time, meaning whatever it may be (album, artwork, play, film, story, etc); it was great then and it’s great now.

Notice the wordplay, history is a recounting of events in time. A classic would be something along those lines, as it occurs in the past. Ex. Grandmaster Flash’s “The Message” is considered one of Hip Hops greatest classics.

This is a clever outro, as Ethan’s character attempts, intrigues, and tries to influence Q’s character to come over and have sex with him.

If a person is photogenic, it means they look good in photos. The implication is that all these girls in this club are attractive.

Skizzy separates her from the rest by using the word “independent” – relying on no one. She came to the club by herself (no friends, no man) and is alone OR she is Skizzy thinks she’s in her own league.
