A Community: that means we’re all in this together. Your classmate is just as important as you. Each one of you is just as important as me. We are all co-learners with one another!
Thinking Critically: We interpret narratives and stories, whether William Shakespeare or Avenged Sevenfold, with the critical thinking skills of literary analysis outlined in the Common Core Standards, skills such as the specific citing of textual evidence to support an argument.
About Our Stories: Our whole lives are comprised of literature, of stories. That Kendrick Lamar song on the radio is telling you a story; LeBron James' triumphant Finals victory is telling you a story; even TV commercials pushing products only work because they set up a narrative in which the viewer sees him or herself. So our job as English students is to discover ALL the stories around us, not just the dead white guys in textbooks (although they’re important too).
