He may be the king, but Adam isn’t God — he doesn’t have all the answers…

This song is reportedly about Joni Mitchell who Page and Plant both liked. Without a king references her song “I Had a King.”

During live performances Plant would often say “Joni” after this stanza

Puma is a clothing and consumer goods manufacturer, formed in 1924 by the Dassler brothers, Adolf “Adi” and Rudolf. In the 1930s, as Adolph Hitler rose to power, both Dassler brothers joined the Nazi Party. Adi produced boots for the Wehrmacht, while Rudolf — reputedly the more ardent National Socialist — was drafted, and later captured by American soldiers. During WWII, the relationship between the two brothers, and their wives, deteriorated. Rudolf was accused of having been a member of the SS — information seemingly provided by none other than his brother Adi.

By 1948, the rift between the two brothers grew until they agreed to split the family company, forming two separate entities… Rudolf left to set up Puma on the opposite side of town (across the Aurach River) and Adi Dassler renamed the company Adidas. Presently, both Adidas and Puma are based in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

Another (potential) reference to Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. Like the protagonist, Travis Bickle, he forgoes sleep to stay up all night on patrol.

Galileo discovered that all objects, regardless of weight, fall at the same rate. By boasting that he “drops science” like Galileo dropped cannonballs off of the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, MCA is not merely asserting his prowess; in fact, he is capable of redefining your whole reality. Galileo’s experiment is often re-enacted in high school physics classes using oranges.

The mention of an orange here is a likely reference to Isaac Newton being hit on the head with an apple… MCA may be pretending that he misremembered the entire episode—ironic humor—as the lyrics are all about how much he knows…

The other thing about this line which makes it clever as the last line is that it’s commonly accepted that nothing rhymes with orange. Of course, now we have the internet.
