In the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Rafsanjani has had a hard time gathering political clout because his facial hair grows out like peach fuzz..

For a rapper, “You can’t grow good thick facial hair” is kind of a weird diss (unless you’re Freeway.)

Aknowledgning that somebody doesn´t have facial hair growth is a common way to bust balls, similiar to saying somebody is still just a boy – therefore it ties together nicely with the earlier metaphor about Jay Z being his son:

My child, I’ve watched you grow up to be famous
And now I smile like a proud dad, watchin' his only son that made it

Whiskers like a “rat” means Jay Z resembles a snitch which is commonly referred to as a rat.

‘Peckerwood’ is a sometimes-derogatory term for white people which Everlast has sought to reclaim

Records going wood is an old joke. ‘Did he go gold, or platinum?’ ‘Naw, he went wood’

This is another example of rappers using ‘non-precious metal’ rankings to insult each other’s lack of album sales.

JR Writer claims that his crew “has it locked” (has a stable position in the drug dealer Ponzi scheme) from Harlem all the way to “Cak-a-lacky” (The Carolinas)

This is not an idle brag: Dipset associate (and Cam'ron cousin) Ezekiel “Freeky Zekey” Jiles was arrested in North Carolina on drug charges in 1999 and later served 3 years for that offense

Proof, Eminem’s best friend and the inspiration for Mekhi Phifer’s ‘Future’ character in 8 Mile, is the only person on this song who mentions Rakaa Iriscience, the other emcee in Dilated Peoples, by name.

Dilated Peoples has three members (Evidence, Iriscience and Babu), but Em only calls the first one out by name. Later on in this track, Proof calls out at Iriscience as well. Evidence would respond to this diss with “Search 4 Bobby Fischer”, which is still considered as one of the hardest disses against Eminem so far.

After House of Pain’s third album, Everlast left the group and they broke up. Not long after, former House of Pain DJ Lethal became the DJ for Fred [Durst]’s nu-metal band, Limp Bizkit.

Ironically, shortly after this song was released, Eminem made a Limp Bizkit diss song called Girls on D12’s debut album Devil’s Night.

From the Rawkus Records compilation, Soundbombing 2 (1999). It was one of the last contributions Eminem made for an indie/underground release.

The original version, titled “Fucking Crazy”, was featured on the Eminem demo tape Slim Shady Demo ‘97 (1996). The demo was recorded sometime between Infinite (1996) and Slim Shady EP (1997).

The beat samples Minnie Riperton’s “Adventures in Paradise” and David Axelrod’s “The Mental Traveler.”

This is the infamous shit he did with Rawkus, and that Stan thought (rightfully) to be phat.

I like the shit you did with Rawkus too,

This is a twist on the line from Reel 2 Reel’s massive dance hit “I Like to Move It”:

Original mad stuntman ‘pon ya case man

Em is “on the case” like a cop, and Bad Boys was a 1995 buddy cop movie.

Bad Boy is also the name of Puffy’s record label. One of Bad Boy’s artists was Ma$e, and mace is a tear gas that is often used by police.
