Katy continues to compare her love to a weightless, flying sensation. She also adds in powerful, emotion-filled words like ecstasy and nirvana that both describe a state of extreme happiness.

Nirvana is also a Buddhist ideal that ties back into the religious/spiritual theme of the song, though she doesn’t identify with any religion:

I’m not Buddhist, I’m not Hindu, I’m not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God. I pray all the time — for self-control, for humility. There’s a lot of gratitude in it.

Katy describes her love with boyfriend John Mayer – who co-wrote this song – as an intangible, but incredibly valuable feeling that she compares to floating.

It also relates to her spiritual view of religion as she explains in her GQ interview:

I see everything through a spiritual lens. I believe in a lot of astrology. I believe in aliens.

The concept of a “double rainbow” was popularized by a 2010 YouTube video that went viral due to the hilarious, excited commentary of Yosemitebear62.

The two rainbows represent Katy and her lover coming together in one beautiful, magical moment.

This symbolism continues the underlying theme of color throughout the album, epitomized by its title which draws upon the color splitting ability of the prism. This is further examined in our album art breakdown.

Fun fact: Katy determined she would write a song called “Double Rainbow” during a yoga class

Though Russell Brand is no longer in her life, her memories of him reverberate in her mind just like the repetition of sounds caused by an echo.

Highlighted by her symbolic use of the heart, she paints a romantic and sensual side of the relationship that is now lost, while also playing off of the popular saying “hindsight is 20/20”.

Coincidentally (or not), “Hummingbird Heartbeat”, a song from her previous album, was inspired by Brand while they were dating.

Fun fact: contrary to popular usage, 20/20 vision is actually not describing perfect vision, but average vision. It means you can see an object from 20 feet away that a normal person can see at 20 feet.

This 25 year old center will be playing in his first Olympic games. Following a trade from the Chicago Blackhawks, who he won a Stanley Cup with in 2013, he currently has 12 goals and 18 assists to go with a +4 plus/minus for Winnipeg.

Frolik has been nicknamed “Baby Jagr” in reference to fellow countryman and teammate Jaromir Jagr and is known for his penalty kill ability – as evidenced by the Blackhawks PK percentage which has fallen from 87.2 last year to an abysmal 72.5, worst in the league.

Fun Fact: the above gif was the first post-season penalty shot goal in the over 80 year history of the Chicago Blackhawks
