If this too deep for the intro I’ll find another use
But just in case its perfect let me introduce
Cole, cole, cole
Too Deep For The Intro by J. Cole

Intros on albums are generally considered throwaways, and don’t really have any sort of meaningful message. They are just there to start the album. However, his intro (even though this really isn’t the intro, Friday Night Lights is) is deeper lyrically than usual and is actually worth something. Since we are used to the throwaway intro, he’s saying that this might not really be a good “intro” because of this notion we all have. However, if you look past this “intro stereotype” and you feel this is perfect, good, because this is how he’s presenting himself.

You ask me who I'm stroking now
I say that the pool is closed
The Breakup Song by Wale

Nice line. Stroking can mean sex or swimming (backstroke, breastroke). In this instance, she asks him who he’s stroking(having sex with). He replies with the swimming meaning by saying that the pool is closed. Meaning that no stroking is going on (sex or swimming wise).

And I'm proud to be an American Handlebars by Flobots

He is saying that even though he knows the words to “De Colores” (A song that most Americans do not know of) He is still putting it out there that even though he’s American, he has other worldly knowledge.

He is also legitimately proud to be a part of America.

Word Freshhawk:

he might also be saying that despite his knowledge of injustice perpetrated by the powers at be in the U.S. against the working class, he is proud of where he is from.

July 17th, 2013

Or, he also knows the words to “I’m proud to be an American”, the ridiculous Lee Greenwood song.

Either way, clearly the point is the contrast between De Colores, the unoffical anthem of the United Farm Workers, and standard American attitudes.
