Eminem details his writing process for this track in his lyrics book Angry Blonde:

“Just Don’t Give a Fuck” was a song that I wrote when I was staying at my mother’s house. It was around the time that Hailie was born. She wasn’t even a year old yet. All of kinds of shit- not being able to provide for my daughter, my living situation, etc., just started building up so much that I had just had it. “Just Don’t Give a Fuck” was actually the second song where people that knew me was were like ‘What the fuck are you talking about?’ See, I didn’t normally talk about stuff like that… I soon found myself doing things that I normally didn’t do. Like getting into drugs and drinkin'. I was reeeaaally fucked up. I was sick of everything . Kim and I had Hailie, my producers FBT were just about to give up on me, we weren’t paying rent to my moms, and just a whole bunch of other horrible shit was going on."

This song was also on the Slim Shady EP before being repackaged with an altered instrumental for Eminem’s debut solo album.

In the clean version of the album, the title was changed to “Just Don’t Give”.

You know what, its great to read something that Marshall Mathers, the man himself has wrote. I do have the book, just not read it (yet). Yea we can all feel the struggle, life is hard. But I admire those that never give up! Obviously Eminem was born with a talent very few are blessed with & found a way too use it. Worldwide.
I saw Em with Dre 12th July 14 at Wembley Stadium, London, I was blown away, mad skills! Sooo much better live, feel kinda privileged to have even got there! It took me a while to save up to get there, but once those tickets went on sale .. Oh man!
Eminem, I think we can all agree on this one
“we thank you for the music” & its great to be able to relate & not feel alone. The power of music is amazing .. My higher power ;-)
