Jamrock is Damian Marley’s personification of the poverty stricken areas in Jamaica which have fallen victim to political corruption and gang violence.

In this song Damian shows a side of Jamiaca that we do not see in advertisements on TV for tourists. This song is gritty, grimey and 100% real

This song contains samples from Ini Kamoze’s “World a Reggae”

The phrase Now Why See does double duty here:

  • it means NYC (Now, Why and See represent the letters N, Y and C in the Supreme Alphabet)
  • it sounds like Now I see

This double meaning, along with the references to specific NY neighbourhoods, gives the sense that RZA oversees everything that happens in the city.

New York City has a population of over 8 million people and each individual has a different background, story, struggle, etc.

The “8 million stories” phrase originates from the 1948 film The Naked City, a murder mystery set in Manhattan. Kurtis Blow later made a hit song based around the phrase. And Phife has a cut called “8 Million Stories” on this very album.
