She met one person similar to her who she would meet weekly and they would show everything they had accomplished. Since they were so alike they were able to get along how they wanted with each other

This is very similar to Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner, his wife (also a painter).

All those kids playing in the streets laughing at Lucy dream of things to be when they grow up, but whereas Lucy actually pursues her interests, these kids will probably give up on their dreams and get a “real” job and live a “normal” life.

The word “mulatto” is an outdated term for a person of mixed European/African ancestry; someone with tan skin. In modern times, it is looked at as offensive or derogatory. More acceptable classifications would be “mixed” or “biracial.” Albinism, from the Latin word albus, meaning “white,” is a genetic condition which results in melanin deficiency; the complex polymer responsible for pigmentation in skin.

Both of these terms can be seen as opposites, even though people of mixed race have the same chances of being born with albinism. Due to the inherent differences from the Western “norm,” these separate groups of people may feel “left out” in society. This could be one of the reasons why Kurt Cobain mentioned them—because he could relate to not fitting in.

Interestingly, a “Mulatto,” an “Albino,” and a “Mosquito” are all different types of old-fashioned cocktails. It is widely known that alcoholic beverages are capable of enhancing one’s libido, or sex drive.

Alabama’s governor at the time was George Wallace, an infamous proponent of segregation, and thus a chief opponent to civil rights advocates like MLK Jr.

Wallace’s inaugural speech just months before asserted the governor’s desire to fight federal efforts to integrate Alabama schools.

In the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny…and I say…segregation today…segregation tomorrow…segregation forever.

Note that the Emancipation Proclamation did not immediately and automatically free slaves in every state and territory. King refers to the symbolic significance of the document rather than its actual, imperfect results.
