In hopes to make the best of a painful situation, Scarface assures his friend that his son is in a better place now.
He provides comfort for his friend, heaven accepts all good people. He shouldn’t have to worry about the fate of his son’s immortal soul.
He is mourning the death of his friend’s son. Furthermore, he’s comforting his friend but also understands that he can only imagine the pain. Scarface has children of his own and would never wish this upon anyone.
He’s praying every child who has died prematurely is now living the happy, blissful life in heaven that they deserve.
When he learned that his friend’s son had died in a fire, he called his wife and told her what happened. Now they both are praying for the life of their own son, Brad, since he just as easily could have been the one to die in a fire.
He knows he can’t feel the same paid his friend is currently going through — he wasn’t a direct part of the situation. However he wants him to know it still hits home, he thinks about his family and how the same situation could have happened to anyone — even him.
Scarface was playing pool with Jay-Z, Beanie, and their engineer Guru and was about to walk into studio to do his verse on this song when he got a phone call from one of his friends, telling him that one of their mutual friends had just lost his kids in a fire. Scarface was quiet for awhile and went to compose a new verse, after Jay offering to just record it another day. After a few minutes, Scarface then came back and spit this verse in one shot. True story, Jay talks about it a lot in his book Decoded.
