A Change is Gonna Come – which Juelz quoted at the beginning of this verse – was sung as a ballad against racism

Juelz is saying: “Look Sam. Dispet is black and we are ballin'. We have fancy SUVs. You predicted it.. and it happened!”

Clarifying that he’s talking about the crack game that made him rich, and not the rap game, hence his references to ounces (O’s) and half-pound bricks (halves) of crack

Nino, G-Money and Duh-Duh Man are characters in New Jack City. The apartment complex-cum-crack house in the movie is called “The Carter.” New Jack City came out in 1991, and Juelz is saying the drug game has gotten a lot harder since then

New Jack City is a popular movie among rappers, from Lil Wayne (who named his albums ‘The Carter’ partly as an homage to the film) to Biggie Smalls (“We got infiltrated like Nino at the Carter” in “Everyday Struggles”), because it was one of the first to deal with ghetto life and the drug game in a way that glamorized the drug dealers as being ruthlessly brilliant

This line is ambiguous:

He might be saying that his lawyer is expensive, but worth it, since his lifestyle might get him arrested–(R2D2 rode on top of a spaceship, flashing red and blue lights and making beeping noises like a police siren). “Mobsters creep through” the system, i.e. evade prosecution via their connections

On the other hand, he might be saying that charging such a high retainer might get his lawyer killed (those Jews). After Cam'ron mentions “R2D2” on the main vocal, he adlibs “that red dot” (R2D2’s most salient feature) by way of explanation in the background. In rap, red dot usually refers to the point that a laser gun-sight makes on its target. Presumably Cam would hire a mobster to do his lawyer

G2 is a type of private jet — Cam'ron often references Gulfstream’s jets as exemplifying his luxury lifestyle. Beef stew: recognizing that this is a strange color description, he says, in a background adlib, “What? that best describes it”

Cam'ron loves fashion, so he reads GQ magazine (in the music video he is reading a copy of CQ – Cam'ron Quarterly). “That’s me, true” — he admits that he likes fashion. And he has a particular penchant for fancy color combinations like peach and blue

Sets up the struggle between God and doing the right thing and the dark forces of capitalism that defines Jay-Z’s life and ghetto life in general. This line led to thousands of YouTube videos claiming this line confirms Jay-Z sold his soul to the mysterious Illuminati in exchange for fortune and fame. But what Jay-Z is trying to get across is that the struggle for money corrupts completely (mind, soul, and body). Jay is acknowledging that he is starting to fall prey to the pursuit of money, and asks for “God” (in some capacity) to save him.

The Snoop Dogg sample is taken from his song “Murder Was The Case”, which in turn samples an earlier Snoop & Dre song “Lil Ghetto Boy”.

The “Illuminati want my mind, soul, and my body” part of the hook is a Prodigy (from Mobb Deep) sample from his verse in the LL Cool J song “I Shot Ya (Remix)”.

This is a sample from a Prodigy (of Mobb Deep) verse on LL Cool J’s “I Shot Ya Remix”. Prodigy has been outspoken against the Illuminati.

Like his preference for a Range Rover Mark II 4.6 over a 4.0, Jay-Z understands it is the sutble differences in vehicle choice that maketh a man more baller than the next. The 1990’s Mercedes-Benz 600 SL series delivered 389HP, while the 300 was only 190HP.

The luxury Benz 600 series is also known as the forerunner of the modern Maybach marque, another vehicle which Hov is well-acquainted with.

The Mercedes 600 series would stay a favorite vehicle choice for Hov for many years – he references the car on Jigga That Nigga in 2001 and later on ‘03 Bonnie & Clyde in 2003.
