Mr. Wilmett lived in London, England – a Brit just like Orwell himself.

He did not, however, own Goni Glass… nor a Sprinter van.

Orwell is quite prescient here. People have only recently begun focusing on the issue of the U.S. becoming a “corporatocracy” – a society dominated by the business class. However, these “rulers” are protected by the anonymity that being a sole dictator does not provide, what Sheldon Wolin calls “inverted totalitarianism”. As politicians grow more and more tied to rich magnates, the public should too grow wary, because, as Chris Hedges put it

There is no way in the American political system to vote against the interest of Goldman Sachs.

According to Frank, this girl really is on fire. This metaphor has been used foreeever in songs and emphasizes sexiness and unpredictablity.

Fire also, in a different way, can stand for a type of purity: remember that this song is called “Wildfire” and after such events new foliage is permitted to grow once again.

The use of this metaphor for his lover’s sensuality and their relationship overall means it will eventually consume itself, tying in with the next verse.

There are a lot of “rocks” in Jay Elec’s life: Jay Z’s Roc Nation label, Islam’s Dome of the Rock, the Nation of Islam’s beliefs about the ancient Black race – as well as his solid upbringing in the Magnolia projects

“I came from a rock” is also a humble way of declaring oneself human, a being of nature and from Mother Earth. Basically, Jay keeps his ego in check, which makes this verse a great contrast to Kendrick’s competition decimation a few measures ago.

In saying “I came from Iraq,” Jay might also be referring to Ancient Mesopotamia and the “fertile crescent” of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers (located in modern-day Iraq) which is often called the “Cradle of Civilization.” He could also be referring to the ancient city-state of Babylon, which has great spiritual significance in the Abrahamic religions and Five-Percenter ideology.

But none of these justify ONLY RELEASING TWO SONGS, Jay Elec.

A stereotypical Indian/magician stunt is snakecharming. Magicians are also masters of illusion and trickery. This metaphor is a way to dismiss (and warn) the critics and those who are inauthentic.

Given Elec’s biblical background, the cobra can be seen as an allusion to the ‘serpent’ in the book of Genesis, who represents Satan. For any rappers or world leaders who have sold their soul for a profit, Jay is warning that they will inevitably answer to a higher power.

There’s also a relevant Bible passage in Exodus 7 where Moses' staff is turned into a king snake.

A juggernaut is an unstoppable force—Kendrick considers himself hip-hop’s steamroller.

The jugular vein are large veins in the neck that drains blood from the head, brain, and face and carries it to the heart. Essentially, Kendrick’s saying he’s at your neck. He also rapped about being at someone’s “neck” on his August 2012 song, “Westside, Right on Time”:

Now what the fuck is up? I’m at your neck like a Pendleton.

The “jug” syllable carried over from the previous line may indicate that while he can juggle, Kendrick isn’t to be taken as a jester–an itinerant entertainer—he’s to be taken seriously.

Big Sean “looking up” means he thanks God when he looks to the sky for the position he’s in and he feels blessed that his music and career has made it this far. He often mentions “looking up” in his music—for example, on his September 2012 song, “RWT,” he raps:

I look up
‘Cause I can’t look down on you bitch niggas no mo, man

The power moves Sean’s likely talking about is the release of his second studio album, Hall of Fame, which was released about two weeks after “Control” release. The album did moderately well, debuting at number three on the Billboard charts and being certified gold by RIAA.

An opposing viewpoint from law professor Geoffrey Stone:

It’s extremely important to understand that in order to protect civil liberties in this country, you not only have to protect civil liberties, you also have to protect against terrorism. Because what will destroy civil liberties in this country more effectively than anything else is another 9/11 attack.
