Patch (officially Patch Media) is a pretty nifty website that “is an innovative way to find out about, and participate in, what’s going on near you.” Warren Webster is the President, and the company was acquired by AOL in ‘09.

The idea is that it supplies news at a community level – and also posts announcements, hosts discussions, and collects things like photos and local business bios in your area.

District 9 is a wonderful critique of the South African system of apartheid.
