You can fight through the difficult patches of a relationship if you know things will get better. But once you reach the point where you’re numb to arguments, you can no longer lie to improve the situation, and you start feeling that the relationship is monotonous and scripted. You almost wish your lover would hurt you again just so you can feel something.
Ironically, Tyler Durden of the movie Fight Club has a similar philosophy. He burns the main character’s hand with a chemical to prove a point to him: without the feeling of pain, we are dead.
Angels cannot bleed and angels cannot die. If you cannot die, then are you really alive? Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Is that true for angels? Maybe an angel could choose to die so he knows he’s alive.

“But once you reach the point we’re* you’re”
where instead of we’re
“And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you’re alive”
It’s about him becoming obsessed with being alone he’s watching movies so he isn’t alone and in every more someone falls in love where he is numb without anyone so he cuts himself to know that he is alive

I agree with this interpretation, but the main meaning has been left out of a line; “bleed just to know you’re alive” is another reference to the film City of Angels, when Nick Cage’s character becomes mortal. In order to transcend, he must essentially “fall from grace” (he literally falls- jumps off of a building actually). When he regains consciousness, he’s bloody from the blow he took from the ground. Again, I agree with the interpretation. Just adding to it :)

“Bleed just to know you’re alive” sounds a whole lot like self-harm, and the whole verse sounds like the love interest is depressed: full of tears that won’t fall, being lied to by their own mind, and only feeling alive when they’re bleeding, in pain. The first verse makes it clear the narrator gave up a lot for this relationship. Perhaps they’re trying to reassure their lover that they’re worthy of love.

This might describe depersonalization, which can accompany many types of mental disorders. It feels like a person’s awareness is a balloon suspended over and tied to their body.
This line may also be a reference to depersonalization:

It could mean that you don’t need to fight to control your emotions if they’re not external (like if the tears don’t come). If you have been lying, it is pointless to fight to prove something to be true. When you feel like your life has become something you are watching from afar, and not living, the pain reminds you that it’s all real.
This means that life seems so orderly and fixed at times, like a movie. Bleeding and pain make you feel real like you actually have a life to lose, not just some scripted story that many first world people adapt as their lives.
