This song is about the story of Admira and Boško, a couple killed in Sarajevo during the Bosnian Civil War in 1994. One was Muslim and one was Christian and they were shot trying to flee the city. My mom comes from a Christian family and my dad is Jewish and I wanted to write a song about the transcendental power of love. -Watsky

he’s speaking from Admira’s (Muslim Women) point of view he says “And they wonder what our parents say, and they wonder how we’ll raise our children” then he says “And they tell me that I’m living with a monster” the whole world looked at the Serbs as Monsters in this war due to all the atrocities they committed on the Civilian Muslim Bosniak’s and Bosko was a Serb over 90% of all the war crimes committed were by Serbs out of all the Civilians that were brutally murdered in the war 80% of them were Bosniak Muslims the most horrific incident was the Srebrenica Massacre hence the next line “And they whisper that she took up with a villain”
