Foie gras is a meal of dons. Much like steak and lobster. French law defines foie gras as the liver of a duck fattened by force feeding corn with a gavage (or by means of a small plastic tube). However, outside of France, the barbaric means with which the duck is fattened is foregone. They just let them lil' dudes get fat naturally.

The first of many references to dresses in this song. This song sets up the chorus as a bonafide Taylor Swift diss (see here for details), as it is a reference to Swift’s Mayer-bashing song “Dear John,” in which she refers to herself as “the girl in the dress [who] cried all the way home.”

Taylor wore a “dress of gold and blue” to an appearance on Ellen when she was still dating Mayer.

By offering her this dress, he’s offering to be her boyfriend, mirroring the saying “She changes boyfriends as often as she does her clothes.”

WARNING: LONG. SEE BELOW FOR TL;DR

If you’re a John Mayer fanatic like me, you probably read these lines and said to yourself, “Oh, shit! Is Mayer finally clapping back at Taylor Swift for “Dear John?”

Yes. The answer is yes.

Not hip on the history? Lemme break it down for you!

In 2010, Swift released her 2nd studio album, Speak Now. The song “Dear John,” mentioned previously, caused a lot of controversy.

Why?

The song is about an ex-boyfriend who is older than Swift that is a manipulative liar (in short, an asshole). Mayer (a self-admitted asshole) and Swift had dated (and broken up) the summer of 2010. Also, the fucking song is called “Dear John!”

So, how are these lines clapping back at Swift? The line, “You’re like twenty-two girls in one,” is a pretty obvious reference to Swift’s 2012 single, “22”.

And, in “Dear John,” Swift states she’ll “look back in regret how I ignored when they said, ‘Run as fast as you can,’” hence the line “And none of them know what they’re runnin' from.”

TL;DR

John Mayer is saying Taylor Swift has multiple personality disorder and all of her personalities are playing the victim when none were victimized.

Four conditions must be met to qualify a transaction for tax-free treatment under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 368:

  • Continuity of ownership interest – At least 50% of the consideration is acquirer stock (although transactions with as little as 40% stock consideration have qualified for tax-free treatment).

  • Continuity of business enterprise – The acquirer must either continue the target’s historical business or use a significant portion of the target’s assets in an existing business for 2 years after the transaction.

  • Valid business purpose – The transaction must serve a valid business purpose beyond tax avoidance.

  • Step-transaction doctrine – The transaction cannot be part of a larger plan that, taken in its entirety, would constitute a taxable acquisition.

In 1916, Margaret Higgins Sanger — an American birth control activist, sex educator, and nurse — opened up the first ever birth control clinic in the United States in Brooklyn, New York, with the help of her sister and a friend. Because of this, she was thrown in jail.

Roughly two decades later, the clinic organized into the American Birth Control League and remained one of the only birth control organizations in the United States until the 60s.

In 1942 the American Birth Control League was folded into what is now referred to as the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

That’s right, bros… if you’re in a fight, your girl better not come to your aid by grabbing your opponent’s balls lest she wants her hand cut off.

Note: This is a very particular rule. It’s not saying your girl can’t sucker punch your opponent, hit him with a frying pan, or even pull his hair (which—if you’ve ever witnessed a girl fight—is one of the most used tactics). Doesn’t even say she can’t kick his balls. Just that she can’t grab them.

Why so particular? Maybe the guy who wrote this had it happen to him once and wanted to save others from the same cruel fate.

Perhaps it isn’t meant to be taken literally. Perhaps it’s meant as a general rule against embarrassing others. Doesn’t make a lot of sense but who knows.

This is the only time a rule concerning facial hair is mentioned in the entire Bible. Outside of this verse, nothing is said for or against beards and it is widely considered a biblical non-issue (which is very fortunate for any Christian that partakes in the World Beard and Moustache Championships).

Some theories about why this verse exists rely on the belief that the practice of rounding one’s beard was indicative of Israel’s pagan neighbors. Therefore, not rounding one’s beard would effectively set oneself apart from the pagans.

It was purely an aesthetic distinction, much like many believe biblically-mandated circumcision was.
