An oath, which is a statement of fact or promise, is traditionally sworn on a Bible, or similar religious text. It is believed that a religious man swearing the oath will not lie because it is equivalent to swearing to God (of course this doesn’t work with someone who isn’t religious)

Growing up in Compton, Kendrick saw crime all the time. On his album “good kid, m.A.A.d city” Kendrick details how he became involved in crime because of the people around him. On the song “m.A.A.d city” Kendrick raps “If I told you I killed a nigga at 16, would you believe me?”
Looking at the line less literally, it can be interpreted as Kendrick calling himself a metaphorical murderer. A murderer of the rap game. Kendrick is saying that he is killing other rappers with his skill on the mic.
