Ironically, Drake has actually covered Destiny’s Child’s song “Say My Name” in several live performances, and, even more ironically, just under 18 months later, he would make his own version of the track with James Fauntleroy, entitled Girls Love Beyoncé.
This is the go-to Drake diss — that his music is R&B and “soft”.
Joe is not referring to any particular R&B singer as some people have suggested; it is merely a common Chicago slang term for “guy” or “dude” which Common has used in his lyrics before. (See “Chi-City” with the lyric “It ain’t ‘94, Joe, you can’t go back.”)
