About the production of her first EP:

Elliot Jacobson, who I worked on the full first EP with, produced the majority. We got some additional production from Peter Thomas (of Betty Who fame and just killer overall) on Wasteland. I worked with Zach Nicita (of MSMR) on Colors, who has been a really dynamic addition to the developing sound of this project.

On her Sentiment EP:

This EP came together so organically and sort of quickly. The two remaining tracks leave a little more space while not losing the drive the rest of the tracks have had. Definitely viewing it as a transitional statement.

The different approach:

It’s pretty similar. Releasing EPs is strange. They’re these little brief statements that you want to be concise and impactful. I think the approach is finding the best way of getting your point across and heard.

She wasn’t just lyrical on “Colors”:

I like to be really involved in production, mixing and mastering. Each working relationship is has different intricacies. I generally trust people to do what they are best at and expect them to trust me to do what I’m best at. Everyone’s involved from inception to completion and has their own expertise.

Elaboration on her name:

It is french directly translated to truth. So it’s based of the concept Cinema Vérité to represent candid reality and the word fit and it made sense. Then the meaning kind of fell into place.

Talks about who would be in a festival of her own creation called “GET OFF YOUR COUCH AND COME TO A MUSIC FESTIVAL”: James Vincent McMorrow, Run the Jewels, Phantogram and many more. Wanting Louis C.K to be in her entourage, having Daughter’s “Youth” as her country’s national anthem, Rae Morris wanting to experience her live, and Chloë Grace Moretz becoming one of her fans.

Loving the way someone described her style as melancholic alternative pop.

Her safeword in bed: “Oh, wait I have one. It would be ‘keep doing that.’ Why not?”

More about her first internet single:

I’m still shocked. I posted Heartbeat online on a Friday night on a whim. My producer and I had been working on an album for a while and the song was done so I figured, why not. I feel really lucky that people have responded with so much excitement. It’s really motivated me to work super hard to continue writing music that resonates with people.

And how effected her circumstances:

It’s definitely been a trip. Honestly, everything’s been a series of happenstance. I posted the song online, a UK blog called SelfBlown posted “Heartbeat” which led to a three week jaunt in the UK, my producer sent a cold email to my current management, and we’ve just been working really hard to translate and present my vision for this project.

and more

I don’t put limitations on myself when writing. I remember being shocked when I put Heartbeat out and people were saying it was this anthemic pop song. There was never any intention to be pop-centric, but I do always strive to write catchy, intricate melodies.

The meaning behind her name:

The meaning is definitely derived from cinema vérité—the goal of which is to represent a candid reality, which is what drew me to the name VÉRITÉ. As a writer, I’m not much of a fictional or metaphorical storyteller. I tend to write from my experiences and portray my reality as clearly as I can. The name fit.

Where she’s from:

I’m from Warwick, NY. It’s a quaint, picturesque town about an hour north of NYC known for its apples. It’s nice to have a place nearby to escape to when I need to get out of the city.

“Echo” was a completely different song for a long, long time. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t cool…Elliot and I just weren’t that excited, to be honest. Then one day I opened my inbox and he had chopped the whole song up. He stripped it, basically. We re-wrote all of the instrumentation, and the result was a super hard-hitting chorus. What it was before is literally unrecognizable.
